Gnome Classic Desktop.......Ubuntu 11.10

Hello friends, I just updated to Ubuntu 11.10 day before and i found that Ubuntu 11.10 does not come with classic desktop option. For a noob like me it becomes difficult to seacrh applications using search options and when you are noob i.e new to linux (ubuntu in my case) it is difficult to remember applications by their names, for eg if you look for video player then how will you search for that when you dont know the name of player.

Classic look provides everthing organized and makes it very easy for noobs to access application as now they dont have to seacrh.

You can fix this problem by adding Gnome-panel by typing in terminal,

 sudo apt-get install gnome-panel
I have already installed gnome-panel that's why my terminal looks like this--

This will install gnome-panel and to use classic look logout and login in again choosing classic option.

and after login you will see gnome classic desktop

And you can see everything is organized and easily accessible.

Break WinRAR Password in ubuntu......

Once I downloaded an ebook which was in .RAR format. When i tried to extract the book it asked for password and unfortunately i was not having the password.

Have you ever got in such type of trouble???? Well if yes then you are on the right place to get rid of this problem. This tutorial is for breaking RAR passwords.

The tool which we will be using is Rarcrack. RarCrack is a program that uses brute force algorithm to find and recover the correct password for compressed archive in .rar (WinRAR), .7z (7-Zip) and .zip (WinZip) format in any POSIX compatible operating system. As such, RarCrack is useful when you have forgotten or lost the password for the compressed archive package in the supported format. To make bruteforce password breaking faster, RarCrack supports specifying a selection of characters and digits to be used in password generations in order to crack the password.

you can download Rarcrack from any of the mirrors, just type in terminal-----

wget http://superb-east.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/rarcrack/rarcrack-0.2.tar.bz2
wget http://kent.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/rarcrack/rarcrack-0.2.tar.bz2
wget http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/rarcrack/rarcrack-0.2.tar.bz2

Now extract the Rarcrack

tar -xjf rarcrack-0.2.tar.bz2

and now move to extracted Rarcrack directory i.e move to extracted Rarcrack folder

cd rarcrack-0.2

Finally install Rarcrack by typing--------

make
sudo make install

Now to use Rarcrack following is the syntax-----
rarcrack encrypted_archive.ext [--threads thread_num] [--type rar|zip|7z]
RarCrack can autodetect the archive type, so the –type parameter only require if auto-detection of file type is wrong

Have you forgotten your password in ubuntu??????

Have you forgotten your login password in ubuntu???  Many times we forgot passwords either because of too many passwords in our life and we can't keep track of them all or we just installed Ubuntu and forgot what password we selected during the installation process.

Well, this tutorial will help you reset your Ubuntu user account password, regardless of what reason you have for resetting it.
First, you have to reboot into recovery mode.

If you have a single-boot (Ubuntu is the only operating system on your computer), to get the boot menu to show, you have to hold down the Shift key during bootup.

Now from the boot menu select recovery mode Which is second option in boot menu.

When you click recovery mode, you'll be presented with a few options. In this case, you want the Drop to root shell prompt option so press the Down arrow to get to that option, and then press Enter to select it.
The root account is the ultimate administrator and can do anything to the Ubuntu installation (including erase it), so please be careful with what commands you enter in the root terminal.

Once you're at the root shell prompt, if you have forgotten your username as well, type

root@ubuntu:~$ls /home

This will show you all the users in your ubuntu, so that you can choose particular user whose password you want to change. type

root@ubuntu:~$passwd username

Now you will be asked to enter password, just enter desired Password and confirm it by retyping it and you are done with changing your password.

Now type exit in the terminal to move back to recovery menu and here choose resume manual boot.
